The Charts: Rick Ross Earns Third Straight #1, Asher Roth Lands In Top 5
The Billboard 200 is ripe with hip-hop this week, as Rick Ross and internet phenom Asher Roth take over the top 5.
In at no. 1, the biggest boss easily slides into the top spot with Deeper Than Rap, selling 158,000 copies in its first week. It’s Ross’ third chart topper, following 2008’s Trilla and 2006’s Port of Miami.
Despite controversy over his past past, the beef with 50 Cent paid off, and Rick Ross is on top again.
Later down the line, Asher Roth holds down the no. 5 spot with his debut album, Asleep in the Bread Aisle. Thanks to his lead single “I Love College,” which peaked at no. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, his debut sold 65,000 to put him in this week’s top tier. Congrats to Asher.
Lady GaGa’s The Fame moved up one position to no. 7 selling 40,000, Day26’s Forever in a Day slides six spots to no. 8 with 37,000, and Jadakiss rounds out the top 10 with The Last Kiss, slipping to no. 10 with 30,000 copies sold, putting him at just over 200,000 copies sold to date.
Outside the top 10, Keri Hilson lands at no. 14 with In A Perfect World…, selling 23,000 copies.
That does it for the top 20 positions, but there’s a couple new releases down the line.
At no. 77, Startrak’s Chester French got off to a slow start, selling just over 6,000 copies of their Love The Future album.
Then, Living Legends members, The Grouch and Eligh, come in at no. 186 with Say G&E!, selling nearly 3,000 copies to open. The duo are currently on tour through May with Afro Classics, Root Beer, and Exile & DJ Day.
According to Billboard.com, overall album sales in this past chart week (ending April 26) totaled 6.17 million units, down 3% compared to the sum last week (6.36 million) and down 10% compared to the same sales week of 2008 (6.86 million).
Year to date album sales stand at 117.9 million, down 12% compared to the same total at this point last year (134.2 million).

Foxy Brown Assault Case Dismissed
Foxy Brown’s assault case, which alleged that she had beat a woman up with her cell phone two years ago, was dismissed today by a New York judge.
The suit, which was filed last year by Arlene Raymond, a neighbor of the rapper in Crown Heights, claimed that Foxy smashed her in the face with a BlackBerry over an argument about the noise level of Foxy’s car radio.
According to the New York Post, Justice Robert Miller ruled that Foxy had never been served with legal papers, the grounds on which the trial was dismissed.
“They knew this was a weak case,” said Brown previously to the New York Daily News. “My family has lived on that block for almost 50 years and has never been a problem.”
