Wyclef Jean returns to Columbia Records with “The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant,” the artist’s first full-length album for the label since his third solo album entered the Billboard Top 200 at #6 in June 2002. “The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant” is slated for release this autumn.
With “The Carnival II: Memoirs of an Immigrant,” his sixth full-length studio album, Wyclef Jean continues the autobiographical musical odyssey he began a decade ago with his 1997 triple-platinum debut solo album, “Wyclef Jean Presents The Carnival Featuring Refugee All-Stars” (aka “The Carnival”). Wyclef gave his fans their first taste of “The Carnival II” with the release of the album’s lead-in single, “Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill),” featuring Akon, Lil’ Wayne and introducing Niia. Released in August, the single rapidly made its first Billboard chart appearance entering the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart at #3. “Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)” is now available digitally.
According to Wyclef, “The Carnival II” is “a continuation of ‘Gone Till November” (his 1997 Top 10 signature hit from “The Carnival”). I focus a lot on the songwriting.” For his much anticipated new album, Wyclef has once again called upon his friends, showcasing his musical dexterity as he draws from an extraordinary and diverse roster of collaborating guest artists including Paul Simon (on “Fast Car”), Mary J. J-Hood Exits D-Block Partnership
In an online statement, J-Hood explains why he left the label. He had this to say.
“Around 3 1/2 weeks ago I asked to be released from the label I’ve been signed to. After that occurrence all legal procedures have been properly handled in accordance. Basically there’s an instance in which we all run out of patience and take upon action to better our situation. I think I’ve been loyal since the beginning to the label and the individuals that run it. I have devoted six years of my life to making our movement prosper with no realistic reward or success, knowing my worth and what I’m capable of. If for any reason I happen to fail to accomplish what I intend to which is be successful, I feel more comfortable knowing it will be from a decision I made, and not one that was made by the next man”
The 22-year-old rapper also dispelled rumors that his D-Block chain was taken away after he announced his departure from the label.
“The chain that supposedly was taken away from me is and has been in my possession since it was purchased, but I refuse to wear it because I have mentally moved on, meaning I’d rather have no type of affiliation with D-Block at all. I’m past that point in my life I have a whole new focus, which is concentrating on making my new movement as strong and successful as possible.
“And for the record, the chain was not given to me by the label but instead purchased by me, so picture me letting someone take it away from me. To put everything in perspective, I will be releasing multiple freestyles and songs on various mixtapes under my own company.
“So now that I have clarified the situation. I will give you a glimpse of what’s to come. I will be signed to my own label ODG Ent. (On Da Grind) as of next week. Last but not least, you can log on to YouTube.com to see the five-minute video interview of me showing the chain and actual release form. Say goodbye to D-Block and say hello to ODG!”

Make the most
Be honest with yourself, and with everyone else as well. There are some things you like and other things you dislike, and that’s just fine.
Be fully accepting of yourself, and of others as well. You are who you are, with your dreams and passions, preferences and interests, and each person is delightfully unique.
What you run from or hide from or seek to deny, grows bigger and more influential as a result. By getting things out in the open, by seeing them for what they truly are, you become free of their control.
You are where you are and life is the way it is. The more completely you accept it, the more power you have to do something about it.
This moment carries enormous opportunity. No positive purpose is served by fighting against it.
Instead, accept what is, the way you are, the way you feel, and the things that life has brought to you. Then you can make the very most of it all.
