Nas officially answered his Hip Hop Is Dead track “Where Are They Now” by releasing a remix that features several of the once famous hip-hop stars that have since fallen into obscurity.

The “Where Are They Now” remix features 90’s rappers Redhead Kingpin, Rob Base, Original Spinderella, Father MC, Monie Love, Mike Gee of the Jungle Brothers, E-S-T of 3XDope, Positive K, Das Efx, DoItAll of Lords of the Underground, Chip-Fu of the Fu-Schnickens and Dres of Black Sheep spittin’ over the “Where Are They Now” track blended with beats from their 90’s hits, including “It Takes Two,” “We Want Efx,” “True Fu-Schnick”and “The Choice is Yours,” among others.

One by one the quieted MC’s re-emerge with lyrics and flow, exemplifying why they are – as one Das Efx member puts it-“your favorite rapper’s rapper’s rapper.” Though upbeat, the spirited remix also features lamentations that Pac and Big aren’t alive to witness it. What’s Going On With G-Unit?

What ever happened to Olivia? Has 50 shelved M.O.P’s record? Who is this Young Hot Rod?

The streets and the message boards have been asking questions like this for quite some time. Sha Money XL of G-Unit finally has time to clear things up.

Contrary to some rumors, all three artists mentioned above are still officially signed to G-Unit. But, don’t hold your breath for any of the acts’ albums to surface this year, except for Hot Rod’s. In fact, his first single’s video has already been shot. Expect Rock to It to hit the airwaves and video shows soon.

So, what about M.O.P.?

“Honestly, I think they have an amazing album,” he noted.. “Those kinds of guys, you just can’t market; you got to just let them run wild. They’re some ugly guys — what you want to do, get them a face-lift? You got to just not spend too much money and make it a profitable situation. I would like to say, ‘Yeah, [they’re gonna come out this year],’ but I don’t wanna lie.”

50’s Before I Self Destruct is also set to release in ’07, but we will wait to see if that album hits shelves before the year’s end.

Pretty Ricky Debut At #1 On Billboard 200

“LATE NIGHT SPECIAL,” the new album from Blue Star Entertainment International/Atlantic recording group Pretty Ricky, has made a triumphant debut in the #1 spot on both the Billboard 200 and “Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums” charts. With total sales of over 132,000, the album’s explosive first week in stores gives the Florida-based foursome the biggest-selling chart debut of 2007 thus far.

“On The Hotline,” the first single/video from “LATE NIGHT SPECIAL,” leaps to #6 at Urban radio and to #8 at Rhythmic Top 40, where it enjoys the most increased airplay this week. In addition, the album’s second single, “Push It Baby,” is set to impact at multi-format outlets in February.

Pretty Ricky – rappers Slick ‘Em, Baby Blue, and Spectacular, and singer Pleasure – kicked off the release of “LATE NIGHT SPECIAL” last week with a stellar performance on BET’s 106 & Park, where the “On The Hotline” companion video spent several days at #1 on the daily countdown. Now in “Heavy” rotation, the clip was BET’s most-played video of the week. What’s more, Pretty Ricky closed out the week with an additional pair of BET appearances, guesting on the January 27th installments of the network’s Hosted Saturday and Top 25 Countdown.

Pretty Ricky has also been highly visible on MTV, including a visit to MTV’s Total Request Live, where the “On The Hotline” video quickly entered the countdown’s top 10. The clip has just been added to the MTV playlist, while also blowing up in “Simmerin'” rotation at MTV Jams.

Pretty Ricky will also make their late night television debut February 20th when the group will perform “On The Hotline” and “Push It” on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live.

“On The Hotline” is a massive ringtone hit, currently standing at #5 on Nielsen Ringscan’s “Top 200 Mastertones” chart. Pretty Ricky is also hugely popular online, with nearly 400,000 friends registered on their MySpace page, placing them in the top 3 of MySpace’s “Top Artists.” At YouTube, the group’s recently launched “Pretty Ricky TV” – which features a variety of exclusive videos – has already hit the top of the site’s rankings as the month’s #1 Most Subscribed Channel, as well as reaching the top 10 of YouTube’s all-time Most Viewed Musicians pages.

Over at their own http://www.prettyricky.com Pretty Ricky has just begun an exclusive sweepstakes where fans can win a trip for two to New York City to see the superstar quartet perform live in concert. Concert winners will also get to travel to the show in a limo, and meet the members of Pretty Ricky backstage.

Pretty Ricky will reveal tour plans for 2007 shortly. In late-2006, Pretty Ricky introduced fans to “LATE NIGHT SPECIAL” with show-stealing performances on the “Scream Tour 5: Ruff & Ready, Young & Sexy.” The BET-sponsored trek saw Pretty Ricky commanding arena stages across America with some of R&B and hip-hop’s hottest new stars, including Omarion, Ne-Yo, Mario, and Yung Joc.

In other news, Pretty Ricky will be featured on the March cover of Black Beat magazine, which hits newsstands on February 13th.

The Game Pleads Not Guilty In Police Impersonation Case
L.A. rapper The Game entered a not guilty plea to charges of impersonating a police officer in a New York court yesterday (January 31).

As previously reported, The Game (born Jayceon Taylor) was arrested on November 16 on charges that he pretended to be a police officer after hailing a cab and flashing a fake badge to his driver. New York City prosecutors claim the rapper told the driver he was an undercover officer and encouraged him to run several red stoplights on Lexington Avenue before being pulled over.

According to Game’s lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, who spoke to the New York Post, the charges are false and his client, who is constantly followed by hip hop police, is the real victim.

“The police are harassing him,” Lichtman said. ” They don’t even have a witness – no supporting deposition. It will be a slam-dunk acquittal or dismissal, it’s up to the D.A.”

“They offered us time served today and I didn’t even lift my head to respond. It’s an embarrassment for them,” he continued. ” The cops follow him from the moment he lands to the moment he leaves. A limo driver freaked out, that’s it. They are harassing him, but there will be some harassment going the other way at the trial.”

A representative for the New York Police Department responded to Litchmain’s claims saying, “If he feels he’s being harassed, he should file a complaint with the Civilian Complaint Review Board.”

The Game, who admitted earlier this year that he was aware he was being followed, released a statement in November declaring his innocence and citing the incident as “a ploy by the hip-hop police to humiliate” him.

Juelz Santana Lands High Profile Nike Cameo, Confirms Lil Wayne Collab & New Album

Rapper Juelz Santana was recently tapped to be featured in Nike’s new marketing campaign, “The Second Coming: Our Game, Our Time,” which features NBA basketball stars LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Rasheed Wallace, Jermaine O’Neal, Tony Parker, Paul Pierce, Shawn Marion, and Chris Paul.

The new :60 second montage was produced by Nike, Wieden & Kennedy and acclaimed music
video director Dave Meyer.

Dipset member Juelz Santana and super producer Just Blaze provided the soundtrack for the commercial, which debuted last week in major markets across the country.

“The commercial is so powerful without no music behind it, I kinda had an idea once they told me what they wanted, they said ‘Juelz we just want you to do you but we want you to make that power'” Santana revealed to AHH. “And that’s what Dipset and juelz santana is known for, just making powerful music. It wasn’t hard. I sent them the first version. It was Nike, there were a couple of things I couldn’t say and I had to take out, but other than that, they loved it, they loved the energy and they loved the feel behind the song.

Here is the Commercial

http://videos.onsmash.com/e/wwj9LlHjh6AeRlyz/0

On Jan. 29, Nike celebrated the new ad campaign at Niketown New York, where Juelz and Kobe Bryant were on hand to speak to local high school students and basketball fans about the importance of hard work to achieve greatness in sports.

While Bryant unveiled his newest signature basketball shoe from Nike – the Zoom Kobe II, Santana revealed details about his upcoming album with Cash Money Records’ star artist, Lil’ Wayne.
The collaboration, titled I Can’t Feel My Face, is finished, according to Santana.

Santana, who is from the Bronx, said that a recently leaked mixtape was just a taste of what he had in store with Lil Wayne, who hails from New Orleans.

“That’s done, everybody who thinks that not happening, we did a mixtape, and the mixtape leaked,” Santana told AHH. “We did the tour together and we got over 40 records, so that’s definitely going down.”

Santana said the
two would select the best of the songs they recorded to produce I Can’t Feel My Face, which is due in stores this year.

“It’s something that’s never been done before, a dude from the north and a dude from the south, especially with the south being so hot, and me being one of the hottest dudes in the north,” Santana boasted. “We just gonna let the music talk. Me and Weezy just put out a single ‘Black Republicans.’ We Black Democrats running those Black Republicans out of office.”

Santana is putting the finishing touches on the follow up to his hit album What the Game’s Been Missing, which is certified platinum.

The album, Santana’s third, is titled Born To Lose, Built to Win (The Reagan Era).
Santana explained that the album’s title is reference to the time Ronald Reagan served as President of the United States (1981–1989), which is also the time period crack cocaine hit the streets of inner cities in the country like a plague.

“The Reagan era was the biggest crack era ever and I feel like I am human crack in the flesh. When I say that I don’t want people to confuse it. My music is so potent, you get addicted to it.”
Santana said that he would be finished Born To Lose, Built to Win (The Reagan Era) and would turn it in to Def Jam, Santana’s recording home.

YouTube To Pay For Videos

YouTube has become an internet main stay for wild and crazy videos and old school classics. Now, the company is getting ready to pay users for quality video.

The company has not announced just how it will split revenue with users, but some speculate that the split may be 50/50, according to a Business Week article.

“We are actively exploring a variety of ways to help the community to monetize content,” a You Tube spokesperson says of the new venture.

The proposal is not without problems. YouTube will also need to ensure that uploaded videos do not violate current copy right laws and keep a closer eye on sexually explicit material.

“I think this is somewhat of a me-too move for YouTube, and I don’t think they necessarily need to do it,” former Zuba CEO Thomas McInerney says.

“People upload content to YouTube because there is an ego in broadcasting yourself. People like the attention.”

Sticky Fingaz to Play Hip-hop Cop on NBC’s Law & Order

Former Onyx front man Sticky Fingaz will appear on the hit NBC show Law & Order: Criminal Intent on February 13. The episode revolves around a rapper, played by Fab 5 Freddy, who is gunned down as he is leaving a radio station after debuting his new song and sitting for an interview.

Major Case Squad Detectives Logan and Wheeler question Sticky’s character who is the sole witness to the crime. Sticky’s character reveals that he is actually an undercover cop working on a task force that specializes in crimes within the hip-hop world.

Detectives on the show become suspicious of the undercover cop when witnesses begin to turn up dead. The show’s plot seems to be loosely based on occurrences at New York’s Hot 97 radio station in recent years, and the rumors of an NYPD task force dubbed the “hip-hop police” who have been accused of racially profiling high profile rap artists.
